Fighting Child poverty in Kenya: The Better Future International Project
Better Future International is a registered non-governmental organization in Kenya. It was founded in the year 2009 out of a desperate need to provide a sustainable way to keep school going children off the streets, so they can have the opportunity to make their lives better through education.
Breaking the cycle of poverty
Rita Kaari, one of the directors, spotted this need as she started her job in a new school (Kisiwa Primary) in Thika. The constant empty seats in her classroom pushed her to want to understand why her pupils didn’t want to come to school. By having conversations with the children, she knew that regular meals would change this cycle and enable them to stay in school without worrying about their next meal. Though she had some initial successes, all the programs fizzled out due to lack of funds.
The cooperation with Big Five
Through her search for a permanent solution, Better Future International teamed up with Big Five Distribution as a sponsor for some of our beneficiaries, from the daily meals to sponsorship to primary and secondary school. Part of Big Five’s vision is to be part of making a better world, and this is done by changing one life at a time. What better way to do this than by improving the lives of children from a young age!
Big Five has enabled the program to expand it’s reach by donating to each of the programs under Better Future International. So, for every purchase made through Big Five, you will be helping to put food on these children’s table daily, as well as contribute to their education and give them a chance at a better future.
Thank you for your support as we impact these children’s lives positively!
